Personal Histories

Richard Losch

Our founder and president is Richard Losch. Mr. Losch was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, and has lived in Florida since 1969. Mr. Losch is married to Marina, and they have a seventeen-year-old daughter named Galina. Mr. Losch received a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1960. He received a juris doctor degree from Creighton University Law School in 1967.

After graduating from law school in 1967, Mr. Losch went to work as a registered representative for Merrill Lynch, and worked in this capacity at different NYSE member firms until 1976. The early 1970's was a difficult time for the stock market, but the experience of living though a bear market of this magnitude is a vital part of the education of a money manager; it has had a profoundly positive impact on the performance of Losch Management Company for the last three years.

Mr. Losch left the brokerage business in 1976 to start a wholesale nursery in South Florida. This business produced and sold flowering plants to Kmart, Home Depot, and Wal-Mart. The nursery business is in many ways similar to the textile business: it is capital intensive, labor intensive, and has a poor return on equity. But a difficult business can be a great education, and there is nothing like running a real business to deepen the understanding of financial statements. Mr. Losch sold the nursery in 1992 so that he could return to the investment management full time.
Losch Management Company was started part-time in 1987. It became a full time business in 1992 and signed with Charles Schwab in 1995 to act as a custodian for its customers' accounts. In 2003 custody of the customer accounts was switched to Ameritrade in order to lower transaction costs. Losch Management receives no compensation from Ameritrade for commissions generated or any other fee. Our only source of compensation is our management fee.

In addition to his position as the president of Losch Management Company, Mr. Losch is member of Florida Bar, and he is a registered investment advisor with the state of Florida.

Rui Tabakov Reboucas

Rui was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 1976.  He comes from a family with a very strong legal tradition.  His grandfather was Chief Justice of the Sao Paulo State Supreme Court; his father is a retired judge; other relatives include two Justices, one judge, two State's attorneys, and two lawyers. Rui’s maternal grandparents immigrated to Brazil from Bulgaria shortly after World War II.

Mr. Reboucas graduated in Law at the Pontificia Universidade Catolica de Sao Paulo in 1999. Unsatisfied with just one law degree Rui then moved to this country and enrolled in George Washington University’s Law School. He received his Juris Doctor degree from that University in 2002.

Mr. Reboucas published in 2005 the translation to Portuguese and adaptation to the Brazilian context of The Essays of Warren Buffett: Lessons for Corporate America. He is a Registered Investment Advisor in the State of New York, and a confirmed value investor.
